Subscription Management

This article provides a comprehensive overview of the EnergyTrak subscription model, explaining which devices require a subscription, how they are structured, and how to manage your billing and access.

Device Subscription Requirements

The need for a subscription is determined by how a device connects to the internet to send you data.

EnergyTrak for Standby Generators: Subscription Required

All EnergyTrak generator monitoring devices require an active, paid subscription to function.

  • Why is a subscription required? Our generator monitors are engineered for maximum reliability. They contain their own cellular modem and eSIM card, allowing them to communicate over various cellular networks. The subscription fee covers the cost of this cellular data service. This independent connection ensures that your generator can send critical status updates and alerts to the EnergyTrak app 24/7, even during a power outage when your local Wi-Fi or internet service may be down.

EnergyTrak for Battery Storage: No Subscription Required

EnergyTrak battery monitoring devices do not require a paid subscription.

  • Why is a subscription not required? These devices are designed to connect to your existing local network (via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable). Since they use your home or business's internet connection to communicate, there is no separate cellular service cost to cover.
    • Cellular networking for battery systems is a native feature we plan to roll out following the EnergyTrak Gateway (Gen 2) launch in 2025-Q4, as these new units ship with on-board cellular hardware.

Subscription Structure

Understanding the relationship between devices, sites, and users is key to managing your EnergyTrak system.

Core Concepts: Device, Site, and User

  • One Subscription Per Device: Each subscription is assigned to an individual monitoring device, and a device can have only one subscription.
  • Devices are Tied to a Site: In the EnergyTrak app, a "Site" represents a single physical location (e.g., "My Home," "Vacation Cabin," "Main Office"). Every device you set up will be assigned to a specific Site.
  • Shared Access for Site Users: A subscription's benefits are shared with everyone who has access to the Site. For example, when a subscription is active for a Site with a generator system, all users assigned to that Site (such as family members or the service manager) can monitor the device without needing their own separate subscription.

Subscription Billing and Management

Cost and Billing Cycle

  • Pricing: We offer annual billing for new subscriptions, charged on a per-device basis.
    • Expanded subscription terms including monthly and multi-year plans are currently under consideration.
    • Previous InfoHub subscription terms are transferred to EnergyTrak, including expiration dates. However, at subscription expiration, renewal options will be limited to those available in EnergyTrak.
  • Billing date: The standard recurring billing date for all subscriptions is the 15th of each month. Your billing cycle begins on the day you successfully activate the device and purchase the plan in the EnergyTrak app. The first payment will be prorated to cover the period from your purchase date to the 15th of the following month. If your existing subscription was migrated, it has been adjusted to align with this standard monthly billing schedule.
  • Auto-Renewal: Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle using the payment method on file.
    • Cancel anytime from the EnergyTrak app.

Transitioning from InfoHub to EnergyTrak Subscriptions

When your existing InfoHub subscription term ends, it will automatically transition to one of our current EnergyTrak renewal options. The table below shows how your previous plan maps to the new renewal structure and pricing.

Management Roles: Pro vs. System Owner

Billing and subscription management can be handled by one of two user roles:

  • System Owner: The end-user of the system, such as the homeowner or business owner.
  • Pro: The installing professional, such as a certified dealer, electrician, or service company. This is only available to Pros when the Site is assigned to their Business. During the initial device and subscription setup in the EnergyTrak app, you will be asked to delegate who will be responsible for managing the subscription. This designated person is the only one who can modify billing details for that device.
warning

Subscription delegation cannot be changed from the app once selected!
This is a known issue we are working to improve in an upcoming release. In the meantime, please contact our support team for assistance.

How to Manage Your Subscription

You can manage your subscription and billing details directly in the EnergyTrak app. Pros (or System Owners with multiple Sites) can manage subscriptions across their fleet all at once.

tip

EnergyTrak helps our partners (Pros) deliver better service to our shared end-use customers. Many dealers find it profitable to offer their customers an annual monitoring and maintenance package for a flat fee (e.g., $500), which includes Pro Monitoring (now in EnergyTrak), System Owner access to EnergyTrak (provided with EnergyTrak subscription), one annual maintenance visit, and one free annual service call.

By paying for EnergyTrak for your customer, you can offer a valuable turnkey service at an affordable price.

Many dealers require monitoring on all installed generators to support their service teams.
